Chris Floyd - Barbican / Broken English
Beautifully-captured shots by Chris Floyd, who was commissioned to photograph backstage and during a screening of ‘Broken English’ at the Barbican (an ingenious and emotional film about the life of Marianne Faithful, made by Jane Pollard and Iain Forsyth).
”Following the screening came a 45 min show of Marianne’s songs, performed by Beth Orton, Jarvis Cocker, Anna Calvi, Ed Harcourt, Rufus Wainwright & Nadine Shah. The backing band was made up of members of Radiohead, Portishead, Pulp, PJ Harvey’s band, and Ed Harcourt on the piano. And all done with the most beautiful backdrop; a previously undiscovered portrait of Marianne photographed by the great Gered Mankowitz in 1964. The picture had apparently lain dormant at the very end of a roll of film, not noticed until now.”
