Phil Fisk - Seafront

Phil Fisk’s ongoing personal project, Seafront, captures people lost in thought along the shoreline at locations around the UK.

Each image is as much about the people as the place - and, of course, the sea itself.

Photographing at the water’s edge brings its own challenges however, with Phil shooting, “up to my waist in water with a Mamiya RZ medium format camera, some gaffer tape and plastic bags to help keep it dry”.

His most recent portrait, made in Shoreham, was shot on a digital camera, but the idea remains the same.

From the outset, Phil intended Seafront to be more than a summer project. As winter approaches, that means digging out the wetsuit and finding ever more inventive ways to keep both himself and his kit warm and dry as the series continues…. watch this space!
